Effective
dog training consists of a three phase strategy: learning,
correction, and proofing.
In the learning phase we make the dog feel as comfortable as
possible while teaching him the different commands -- this in
turn makes the dog confident and relaxed, two emotional requirements
necessary for a solid training foundation.
|

Once
we see the dog grasp each training concept, we begin the correction
phase, keeping the dog from straying from the training task
at hand. Then we use positive re-enforcment to relieve any
stress the dog encounters during each correction.
This
combination of learning and correction quickly solidifies
the training objectives in the student, and he learns the
desired behavior effectively and confidently.
|
Finally,
when we feel the dog understands the lessons and can perform
and fulfill his master's wishes, we begin the proofing phase.
Proofing ensures that the dog will always, no matter what
the circumstance, follow his master's orders. We
accomplish this by creating numerous distractions and testing
the dog in a variety of circumstances. After the dog learns
to ignore distraction, he is capable of complete obedience
in all urban environments, under any conditions.
